About Gannan Medical University

 

Gannan Medical University (GMU) is located in Ganzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in Jiangxi province. Organized by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, GMU is a full-time undergraduate medical university in Jiangxi province. Professor Han Jisheng, an academician of China Science Academy, works as the honorary president of GMU. GMU was founded as Ganxian Advanced Midwifery Vocational School of Jiangxi Province in 1941, developed to Gannan Medical Technical School with College Degree authorization in 1958. And GMU was updated to an undergraduate university in 1988 and obtained the master's degree authorization in 2013.

GMU boasts Zhanggong Campus and Huangjin Campus, covering more than 2,229.63 mu (including affiliated hospitals). The total value of such equipment as teaching, scientific research and medical instruments is 0.205 billion Yuan. GMU has 1,261,400 books and 2,398,900 electronic books. GMU currently has more than 12,810 undergraduates, college students, graduates and overseas students, and 7,521 students majoring in adult education. There are more than 4,431 staff (including the First, Second and Third Affiliated Hospital of GMU). Among them, there are 1,070 full-time teachers, including 450 full-time staff with senior professional titles. GMU boasts 12 teachers enjoying the special allowance of the provincial and State Council government (5 ones in service), 7 candidates of Ganpo Talent 555 Project, 1 provincial major academic leader, 5 provincial university academic leaders, 1 young scientist candidate of Jinggang Star, 22 candidates of provincial Hundred-Thousand Project (Level 1&2), 6 provincial distinguished teachers (2 ones in service), 2 provincial model teachers, 37 provincial young and middle-aged leading teachers, 2 young Jinggang scholars and 2 scholars selected into 2 various “Qianren Plan” (High-level Talents Plan) at the same time.

Centering on medical majors, GMU coordinates the development of Science, Engineering and Sociology. GMU has developed into a local medical university with distinguished characteristics. There are 29 undergraduate majors, including 2 national distinguished majors (clinical medicine sciences and anesthesiology), 6 provincial first-rate majors (Clinical Medicine Science, Applied Psychology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Anesthesiology and Medical Imaging), 1 provincial first-rate discipline (Clinical Medicine Science) ,2 provincial university “Twelfth Five Year” key first-rate disciplines, 4 first-level masters’  disciplines (Clinical Medicine Science, Basic Medicine, Pharmacy and Medical Technology), 3 masters’ professional degrees disciplines(Clinical Medicine Science, Nursing and  Public Health), 5 education training programs for outstanding doctors of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, as well as more than 120 provincial education training programs for outstanding doctors, outstanding engineers, etc.

GMU has good teaching and scientific research environment. GMU has 3 national research platforms (Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Control Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education of China, Hakka Traditional Chinese Medicine Resource Research Branch of the National Center for Modern Engineering and Technology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Gannan Branch of the National Center for Clinical Medicine Science Research of Geriatric Diseases), 3 High-level Talents Training Model Innovation Experimental Zones of Jiangxi Province, 4 University Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers of Jiangxi Province, 1 “2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Jiangxi Province”, 1 Post-doctoral Innovation Practice Base of Jiangxi Province, 1 Key Laboratory of Jiangxi Province, 3 Clinical Medicine Science Research Centers of Jiangxi Province (under development), 1 Engineering Technology Research Center of Jiangxi Province, 1 Engineering Research Center of Jiangxi Province, 2 University Key Laboratories of Jiangxi Province, 1 Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Base of Jiangxi Province, 1 Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base of Jiangxi Province, 1 Soft Science Research Base of Jiangxi Province, 1 Academician Workstation of Jiangxi Province, 1 Academician Workstation of Ganzhou, 8 Engineering Technology Research Centers of Ganzhou, 3 directly affiliated hospitals and 8 indirectly affiliated ones. In 2007, GMU passed the eva luation of Undergraduate Teaching Level of the Ministry of Education of China. In October 2013, GMU passed the Undergraduate Clinical Medicine Professional Certification of the Ministry of Education of China. Until 2018, the passing rate of the National Medical Licensing Examination for the Clinical Medicine Sciences majors’ graduates of GMU was higher than the national average level over the past 13 consecutive years.

GMU adheres to the aim of serving the regional economic development based on talents training and scientific research. GMU has formed its own characteristics and advantages in the fields of New Targets and Technologies for the Prevention and Treatment of Ischemic Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases, First Aid for Chest Pain and Stroke, Stem Cell Research and Clinical Transformation, Research and Development of Camellia Oleifera Industry Chain, Immunity and Inflammation, Molecular Pathology Detection Technology, Diagnosis and Treatment of Vascular Diseases, Minimally Invasive Urology Technology, Research and Development of Characteristic Chinese Herbal Medicine in Southern Jiangxi, Precise Medical Research of Hereditary Diseases, Acupuncture Analgesia, Bone and Joint Degenerative Diseases, the Impact of Rare Earth on Environment and Human Health, the History of Medical and Health Care in the Central Soviet Area and the Strategic Study of Healthy China. GMU has achieved a number of symbolic achievements and has published academic papers in the top international journals Cell, European Urology and Nature Communications. Until now, GMU has cultivated more than 60,000 medical talents and 77.6% of them are working in various hospitals, which they have become the backbones in the hospitals concerned.

GMU attaches great importance to foreign cooperation and exchanges, and has established exchanges and cooperation relations with more than 20 universities and scientific research institutions in the United States, Britain, Germany and other countries. GMU has established a teacher-student training base at Lincoln Memorial University in the United States, and has become a collaborative unit with the German Heart Center (Berlin). GMU began recruiting overseas students in 2005, and 85% of them have passed the Medical Licensing Examination for the Clinical Medicine Sciences majors in their home countries. Foreign students and graduates were sent to Britain, Australia, Japan, South Korea, India and Philippines since 2007. GMU actively hosted the China-Germany Hospital Management Forum, Hemangioma International Forum, Mayo Hospital Management Forum, the National Children's Cancer Seminar, Rural Targeted-area Medical Students’ Cultivation Seminar etc.
